ABSTRACT: Data from the contiguous U.S. indicate 168 “billion-dollar disaster events” linked to atmospheric phenomena during 1980-2013. This seminar will:

(i) Discuss the physical and dynamical drivers of atmospheric hazards and how and why they may evolve under global climate change.

(ii) Present an assessment of the use of regional models for understanding and predicting atmospheric hazards.

(iii) Describe the requirements for ‘actionable’ climate information using an example from the wind energy industry.

The EAS seminar series continues in its new virtual form this semester. Seminars are loosely organized around the theme of “Hazards.”

Every Wednesday from 12:40-1:30 pm.
