Barnhart to join EAS as Director of Administration

Kyle Barnhart will join the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences as Director of Administration on August 21, 2023.

Kyle Barnhart comes to EAS after a stint most recently as the Administrative and Project Manager in the Office of Academic Programs in Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). In that position he was responsible for administering the CALS Research Honors program, as well as research grant, fellowship, and scholarship awards. EAS Chair Geoff Abers describes Barnhart as "a proven leader and an effective, empathetic communicator with broad experience in higher education, as well as the public and private sectors."

Barnhart currently serves as the Town Supervisor for the Town of Lodi and as a County Legislator for Seneca County. He previously served as Mayor and Village Trustee for the Village of Lodi. He has an associate’s degree from Tompkins Cortland Community College and a bachelor’s degree in public policy from SUNY Empire State College. He has also worked as a general manager in multiple wineries.

In announcing Barnhart's new position to the EAS community, Abers wrote, "I am confident that Kyle’s wide-ranging experience, his demonstrated ability to collaborate with many stakeholders, and his results-oriented leadership will serve our department well. I look forward to working with him as we continue to enhance our operations and prepare for the transition to a new Chair in 2024."
