Munoz-Saez earns GSA Early Geological Career Award
Carolina Muñoz‐Saez, incoming assistant professor of earth and atmospheric sciences, was awarded the Geological Society of America's Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, & Volcanology Division Early Geological Career Award.
Muñoz‐Saez is currently a professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, and will be joining Cornell next year. According to her nomination, she has established herself as a global leader in studies of hydrothermal systems and their surface expression in the form of geysers. This includes pioneering studies of their mechanics, the deposits they form, and the life they host.
The Early Geological Career Award is given annually to an individual near the beginning of his or her professional career who has made distinguished contributions in one or more of the following fields of research: mineralogy, geochemistry, petrology, and/or volcanology, with emphasis on multidisciplinary, field-based contributions.
