The EAS faculty submit statement in support of March for Science.
On Saturday, April 22nd, 2017, thousands of scientists and supporters of science are expected to attend the March for Science in Washington D.C. and more than 429 satellite marches across the world. Many scientific and educational societies have expressed their intent to participate to address a variety of concerns related to science.
As scientists who study the Earth and citizens who live on it, we are deeply aware of the need for improved data about and understanding of the complex interactions between the Earth, its oceans and atmosphere. In a world with growing needs for resources of all kinds, and with our environments under increasing pressure from human activities, a solid foundation of scientific knowledge about our physical environment is of fundamental importance.
We endorse the principles behind the March for Science, the value of empirically based and objectively evaluated knowledge, and the goal of a strong and growing scientific approach to the study of and decisions about the Earth.
