CTI Innovation Awards spur new learning opportunities

Assistant Professor Peter Hitchcock and Senior Lecturer Mark Wysocki, received an Innovation grant from the Cornell University Center for Teaching Innovation to incorporate the Jupyter Notebook app into their Atmospheric Dynamics course which allows students to use real forecast data. Read more

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Selected to be an American Geophysical Union Bridge Partner

Cornell’s Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) has been selected to be an American Geophysical Union (AGU) Bridge Partner. EAS is one of 18 out of 68 programs that were accepted into the AGU Bridge Program in 2020. The Bridge program partners with academic institutions across the United States to recruit and retain underrepresented students who are applying to geoscience graduate schools. Bridge Program students only need to fill out one common application form to apply to any of the Bridge program institutions. Calendars are $10 + shipping. The Ithaca Weather Calendar began in 1985 as a project between the graduate students and senior class of Cornell’s Earth & Atmospheric Science major. Warren Knapp, professor emeritus in EAS, died on Oct 3rd. Knapp brought engineering skill to the study of weather and climate, finding sophisticated and precise ways to measure and record day-to-day and annual fluctuations in temperature, radiation, precipitation and pollution. Read more
