Overview
Larry Brown is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and has been the Director of the Institute for the Study of the Continents (INSTOC) since 2004. Brown did his undergraduate studies at Georgia Institute of Technology and earned his PhD from Cornell. Prof. Brown`s primary research interest is application of multichannel seismic reflection methods to the exploration of the continental lithosphere and to the investigation of deep tectonic processes. Current projects are underway on the northeastern Tibet Plateau, across the island of Taiwan, and on the volcanically active Caribbean island of Montserrat. In addition, Prof. Brown`s interests include application of Ground Penetrating Radar to Mayan archaeology and volcanostratigraphy.
Research Focus
Seismic imaging of the continental lithosphere, GPR investigations of shallow subsurface.
Instruction Focus
Exploration geophysics, especially seismology and GPR and natural hazards.
